Germany's Federal Court of Justice said on Monday Volkswagen AG is liable to compensate buyers of vehicles involved in the 2015 Dieselgate scandal.

According to the court's ruling, people who purchased cars that had the emissions test-cheating software installed may return the vehicles and receive partial financial reimbursement from the automaker.

Earlier this month, the automaker's CEO and chairman settled market manipulation charges for €9 million.
