Volkswagen AG said on Monday it will provide financial help to members of its dealer network in the United States who want to use the automaker's service loaner fleet to pick up and deliver critically needed supplies.

"Some dealers already decided to 'drive bigger' and start their own pickup and delivery service programs. Today, we are announcing our brand's financial contribution to those efforts across the entire dealer network and giving them the support to do even more," the company's senior VP Saad Chehab stated.

Dealers will be given a "daily stipend" to cover the fuel and lease costs, the German carmaker said.
