Volkswagen to furlough staff at its US plant

Thursday, 09. April 2020 22:32

Volkswagen AG announced on Thursday temporary furloughs for its production and maintenance workforce in its Chattanooga plant in the United States, as the coronavirus crisis continued. The workers in the plant have not been able to work since production was suspended on March 21, the company said in a statement.

The carmaker said the furlough is starting on April 11 and will last "no more than four weeks." The company also said it is taking steps to minimize the furlough’s impact on employees, as they will be paid quarterly bonuses for the first quarter and monthly bonuses for March, while health care benefits and coverage of premiums will continue to be provided.

Volkswagen employees and production contractors received full pay and benefits during the production suspension period so far, the automaker added.
