Europe closes higher as ECB restarts bond-buying

European equities closed in positive territory after the European Central Bank voted to reintroduce quantitative easing in an effort to stimulate the economy. The new QE program will entail €20 billion per months of asset purchases and will start from November 1.

The DAX advanced 0.41% at the end of trading with Merck and Linde leading the gains. Meanwhile, the CAC 40 climbed 0.52% as Engie and Peugeot rose over 2%. In London, the FTSE 100 was up 0.09%, while Morrison Supermarkets was the top performer.

The euro jumped 0.38% against the dollar at 5:40 pm CET, buying 1.10510, while the pound gained 0.10% versus the US currency to go for 1.23412.
