Wall Street closes mostly higher amid vaccine optimism

Major stock markets in the United States closed mostly higher on Wednesday amid renewed vaccine optimism while traders carefully monitored happenings surrounding additional fiscal stimulus. US President-elect Joe Biden vowed his administration would secure free vaccines for all Americans and an "equitable" vaccine distribution across the country. Also, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said that "the Senate won’t be bullied into rushing out more borrowed money into the hands of Democrats’ rich friends who don’t need the help."

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 0.24% with the Walt Disney Co increasing by 2.18%. The S&P 500 went up by 0.13% as Freeport-McMoRan Inc grew by 7.24%. On the other hand, the Nasdaq 100 stood flat. Baidu was the best performer jumping by 12.59%.

The euro stood flat against the dollar to sell for $1.22921 at 4:01 pm ET.
