European stocks extend gains as banks rise

Major European stock market indexes extended gains on Monday and Germany's DAX surged over 300 points as banking stocks across the continent contributed most to the rise.

The DAX, which jumped 2.56% at 11:57 am CET, was led higher by Deutsche Bank which surged 6.38% at the same time. The CAC 40 in Paris rose 1.82% at 11:57 am as Credit Agricole, Societe General and BNP Paribas all increased by over 3%. Meanwhile, the FTSE 100 was 1.30% higher, with HSBC rallied 9.14% at 11:46 am CET.

The euro was up 0.12% against the dollar, going for 1.16453 at 12:02 am CET. The pound jumped 0.83% against the greenback at 12:03 am CET, changing hands for 1.28551.
