Gold extends gains as virus fears mount

Gold continued to rise on Wednesday, as the investors turned more and more to the safe-haven assets amid the rising concerns over the health and economic crises caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The number of COVID-19 fatalities surpassed 700,000 earlier today. At the start of the week, the World Health Organization noted that the consequences of the health crisis might be felt in years, and maybe decades, to come.

Gold jumped 0.73% to sell for $2,034.48 per ounce at 4:01 am ET.
