Wall Street closes mixed on economic data

Major stock markets on Wall Street closed mixed on Friday with the economic data released earlier revealing modest results. The International Monetary Fund's reported that the United States' economy slumped 37% in the second quarter year-on-year, while the Consumer Sentiment Index dropped by 6.27% in July compared to the previous month.

On the other hand, housing starts performed above estimates, while the Federal Reserve adjusted its Main Street Lending Program to create easier access to loans.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded 0.22% lower at the close as Exxon Mobil Corporation declining by 1.99%. On the other hand, the Nasdaq 100 went up by 0.18% and the S&P 500 gained 0.31%, with Intuitive Surgical being the top performer on both indexes, rising by 7.69%. The euro grew 0.48% against the dollar to sell for $1.14388 at 3:57 pm ET.
