Wall Street surges at open on unexpected jobs data

The major stock indexes in the United States traded higher at the open on Thursday after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released a report on nonfarm employment for June. The increase of 4.8 million jobs or 2.2 percentage points exceeded the expectations. At the same time, the number of initial jobless claims in the US for the week ending June 27 dropped by 55,000 compared to the week before.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 1.47% or 361 points at the session's start with Boeing gaining 3.54% at 9:31 am ET. Concurrently, the Nasdaq 100 went up by 1.03% as Tesla led the gains soaring 8.90% after its second-quarter delivery figures. At the same time, the S&P 500 gained 1.17% with Apache Corp as the best performer.

The euro rose by 0.15% against the dollar, buying at $1.12656 at 9:32 am ET.
