Militant shelling occurred 62 times over the past 24 hours in Idlib, Russian Center for Reconciliation in of the Conflicting Sides in Syria head Major-General Yuri Borenkov said on Friday and added that the actions caused the inability of civilians to leave the area which is considered the last military stronghold of anti-government militants in Syria.

Borenkov stressed that the Syrian army was unable to evacuate civilians due to the strikes. He added: "The Russian reconciliation center urges the commanders of illegal armed groups to refrain from armed provocations, to embark on a path of peaceful settlement in the areas under their control and stop hampering civilians’ exit via the opened checkpoints."

Russia and Turkey agreed to a ceasefire in Idlib that started on January 12.
