Europe closes higher on trade optimism

Stocks on European markets gained at the closing bell on Friday amid trade developments between China and the United States following the signing of the so-called phase one trade deal.

Meanwhile, the European Union and the US engaged in talks over digital tax, according to French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire, who claimed that the original proposal on international tax reform is "no longer on the table" as France proposed fresh digital tax solution to the US.

The DAX gained 0.72% at the closing bell with RWE AG surging nearly 3% while the CAC 40 in Paris jumped 1.02% at the same time as Airbus added over 2%. Meanwhile, the FTSE 100 soared 0.86% led by NMC Health's rise of more than 8%.

The euro dropped 0.40% against the dollar, changing hands for 1.10935 at 5:31 pm CET.
