Wall Street opens slightly higher ahead of Trump's speech

Stock markets in the United States opened the trading session slightly in the green as investors await the speech American President Donald Trump is scheduled to give at the Economic Club of New York later in the day. It was reported earlier that Trump is expected to make a "constructive statement on China" during the speech, possibly reflecting on the progress in trade negotiations between Washington and Beijing.

A report from earlier in the day by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) revealed that the small business optimism index in the US increased to reach 102.4 in October.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index increased by 0.07% at the open. Cisco Systems was the best performer, gaining 0.73% at 9:47 am ET.

The Nasdaq 100 added 0.13%. Autodesk Inc. led the gains, rising 2.40% at 9:34 am ET.

The S&P 500 climbed 0.11%. Construction company D.R. Horton Inc. surged by 4.77% at 9:34 am ET.

The euro was 0.12% lower against the dollar to trade at 1.09983 at 9:35 am ET, while the pound was flat compared to the greenback, going for 1.28479 at the same time.
