Apple: €13B EU ruling 'defies common sense'

Apple Inc. lawyer Daniel Beard told a European Union court on Tuesday that the €13 billion anti-trust ruling by the European Commission "defies reality and common sense."

"We believe Apple is the largest tax payer in the world. In the period covered by the decision, Apple’s global tax rate was 26 percent," he said.

The company’s CFO Luca Maestri lead Apple’s delegacy into Luxembourg's General Court and during the two-day hearing in the EU's court, Apple will try to tackle the EU competition commissioner's claim that they had an inequitable lead that allowed them to pay much smaller tax than they were obliged to pay in Ireland, where their EU headquarters are located.
