Asian markets mostly higher ahead of Powell speech

Asian markets traded mostly higher on Friday ahead of a speech from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell in Jackson Hole. Powell will speak at the Fed's symposium in Wyoming for the first time since cutting rates last month. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has been pressuring the official to deliver more rate cuts.

In Japan, the core consumer price index rose 0.6% in July, while CPI increased by 0.5%

The Nikkei 225 jumped 0.36% at 7:15 am CET, while the South Korean Kospi Composite was flat.

In China, the Shanghai Composite climbed 0.32% at 7:35 am CET, while the Shenzhen Composite was down 0.13%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.53% at 7:36 am CET.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 traded 0.24% higher at the same time.

The dollar advanced 0.15% against the yen, selling for ¥106.601 at 7:37 am CET.
