The employment increase registered for last month in the United States came in at a strong 213,000 for January on a seasonally adjusted basis after an increase of 263,000 in the previous month, Automatic Data Processing said on Thursday. The tally for November was revised upward by 8,000.

The pace of hiring in large businesses in the unofficial measure of nonfarm private sector payrolls was the only one of three major categories which grew – to 66,000 from 37,000, while the prior reading was slashed by 17,000. Employers in the sector of small firms reported 63,000 additions to headcount and medium companies got 84,000 people on board. Most of the boost from the prior months' pace was measured in professional and business services (46,000) and education and health, with 38,000 new workers.

Producers of goods contributed with 68,000, where 1,000 positions were lost in natural resources and mining. The rest was almost equally split by construction and manufacturing. The latter landed at 33,000, the most since October 2014.
