Commerzbank reports Q1 EPS at €0.2, up 11% YoY

Commerzbank AG reported on Tuesday its earnings per share (EPS) at €0.2 for the first quarter of 2018, up 11% compared to the same quarter the year before. Revenues stood at €2,3 billion, 3% less than in the first fiscal period of 2017. The German bank's earnings sheet puts its operating profit at €289 million, down 12.3% on a yearly basis. Its net profit amounted to €250 million or 9% more year-on-year. The Frankfurt-based company gained around 73,000 net new private and small business customers in Germany, more than in the two previous quarters. Meanwhile, it also added around 1,000 net new corporate clients in the first quarter.

"We are delivering on what is the core of our strategy: Growing our business with private and corporate customers and digitalizing our business. We aim to resume dividend payments for financial year 2018 and have made an accrual in the first quarter," said Martin Zielke, CEO of Commerzbank.
