Europe opens lower ahead of data, Powell testimony

Markets in Europe opened in the red on Thursday ahead of manufacturing data. In the United States, personal consumption expenditure is set to be released, while new head of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, will testify before Congress for the second day. Meanwhile, the European Union released its draft Brexit deal earlier, which underlined Britain has to allow Northern Ireland to remain inside the EU's customs union after departing from the bloc.

The DAX was down 0.55% at 9:05 am CET as Beiersdorf lost 2.84%. The CAC 40 fell 0.15% at 9:06 am CET with Carrefour as the worst performer as it decreased 3.80%. The FTSE 100 declined 0.16% at the same time; Rentokil Initial led the losses as it fell over 4%. The euro traded 0.04% lower against the dollar at 9:07 am CET, going for 1.21952.
