Europe opens mixed as Macron wins election

European equities opened mixed on Monday as investors digested results of yesterday's French presidential election. Emmanuel Macron defeated far-right candidate Marine Le Pen by winning 66% of the vote.

In Germany, the DAX  advanced 0.16% at 9:08 am CET. The best performer was Volkswagen rising around 1% at 9:10 am CET.

The CAC 40 fell 0.29% at 9:08 am CET as LafargeHolcim lost 3.5%. The Swiss cement company initiated a merger of its two Indian companies ACC and Ambuja Cements. Schneider Electric followed with a loss of over 3.11% despite being named as one of Australia's most desirable employers.

The FTSE 100 was flat at 9:07 am CET. Antofagasta led the losses of the mining sector by declining 2.73% at 9:18 am CET.

The euro decreased 0.25% against the dollar, buying 1.0971 at 9:14 am CET upon hitting a six-month high against the dollar yesterday.
