Europe opens higher ahead of data

Major stock markets on the Old Continent opened higher on Tuesday ahead of the release of several economic updates later in the day. Those will reveal Germany's latest performance in unemployment, the United Kingdom's in mortgage approvals, and the European Union's in consumer prices. Earlier, SK Bioscience (SK) and GlaxoSmithKline PLC (GSK) announced they have started phase 3 of clinical trials of their vaccine against COVID-19.

The DAX opened 0.25% higher as Delivery Hero SE grew by 2.16%. The FTSE 100 increased by 0.12%, with Weir Group PLC rising by 2.49%. The CAC 40 advanced by 0.06% as STMicroelectronics NV went up by 0.70%.

The euro gained 0.23% against the dollar to sell for $1.18242 at 8:57 am CET. At the same time, the pound sterling rose by 0.20% against the greenback to go for $1.37876.
