US closes higher on vaccine hopes

Shares on the major stock market indexes in the United States closed with moderate gains on Tuesday, with both the Nasdaq 100 and the S&P 500 hitting their respective intraday and closing highs as positive market sentiment was seemingly influenced by optimism regarding additional coronavirus full vaccine approvals. The latest economic data showed that new home sales in the US were 1% up in July. On the business front, it was reported that Citigroup is preparing to start trading CME bitcoin futures, while Delta Air Lines ordered an additional 30 A321neo aircraft from Airbus.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index was up 0.09% at the close with Dow Inc., its best performer, rising 1.93%. The Nasdaq 100 grew 0.29% at the end of the trading session as Pinduoduo skyrocketed by 22.25%. The S&P 500 closed with a 0.15% gain. Best Buy pulled the index up, advancing 8.32%.

The euro was 0.10% higher compared to the dollar to change hands for 1.17576 at 3:59 pm ET.
