Qualcomm Inc. is trying to persuade the United States government to ease the sale limitations on US-made chips to Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday, citing Qualcomm's presentation it has had access to.

The American company allegedly claimed that its foreign competitors will profit the most from the sanctions, as it expects Huawei to turn to them for tech supply. The market that companies such as Taiwan-based MediaTek Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co. could take over is estimated at $8 billion per year, Qualcomm reportedly said in the presentation.

Meanwhile, Huawei executive Yu Chengdong reportedly revealed that the output of the Kirin 9000 chipset will be stopped from September 15, citing US sanctions and the lack of supply as the main reason for the production halt.
