Germany is preparing for tougher lockdowns to contain a potential second wave of the novel coronavirus, AFP reported on Thursday.

According to the outlet, a draft plan explaining the upcoming stronger measures is currently circulating between the federal and regional governments.

The country's response to the original virus wave has been adequate, leading to a containment of the virus during April, just two months after the spreading across Germany started. However, Chancellor Angela Merkel is expecting a hard summer as the pandemic "isn't over."
