Tesla's shares surge over 13% to top $1,700 for first time

Shares of Tesla, Inc. jumped more than 13% on Monday, selling above $1,700 for the first time as Roth Capital's analysts upgraded it from "sell" to "neutral."

Last week, the company's CEO Elon Musk claimed Tesla is "very close" to developing a level five autonomous driving technology with basic options set to be unveiled by the end of the year.

The electric vehicle maker traded 13.14% higher, going for $1,747.71 9:44 am ET. Meanwhile, Tesla surged more than 304% since the beginning of the year.
