Rivian wants to release its all-electric pickup truck before Nikola Motor Co. and Tesla, founder and CEO of Rivian R.J. Scaringe told CNBC on Friday.

Scaringe claimed his company is "months" ahead of competitors which, besides Tesla and Nikola, also include General Motors and Ford. The company is hoping to mass-produce electric vehicles soon, but Scaringe added that even though Rivian is open to funding, he isn't planning to take the company public yet.

Previously, investors in Rivian included Amazon, Ford, Cox Automotive and T. Rowe Price Associates. Last year, they helped Rivian raise $2.85 billion.
