Europe ends mixed as COVID-19 remains in focus

Major stocks markets in Europe ended mixed on Friday as coronavirus fears persited as the number of daily diagnosed cases in the United Kingdom remained over 1,000. However, some vaccine hopes came to light as Vaxart said it was joining the United States government's efforts to create a COVID-19 vaccine while the World Health Organization (WHO) labelled AstraZeneca's vaccine against the illness as the most advanced.

The FTSE 100 finished 0.20% higher., led by Smiths Group which increased by 4.28%. The DAX fell 0.73% at 5:37 pm CET as Wirecard dropped over 60%. The CAC 40 lost 0.18% as Unibail-Rodamco-We declined by 4.97%.

The euro was down 0.08% against the dollar, changing hands for 1.12092 at 5:43 pm CET.
