Dow, S&P turn to gains

The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 went turned to gains on Thursday after opening lower as the number of coronavirus cases in the United States continued to rise. During the session, the US Senate passed sanctions on China for enforcing the Hong Kong national security law and a report said the Trump administration is looking to intervene and help the private sector develop 5G technology in the US.

The Dow increased by 0.16% at 2 pm ET as it was led higher by the banking sector. The S&P 500 was 0.13% up at 2:01 pm ET. National Oilwell Carco surged 8.62% at 1:46 pm ET to become the best performer in the index. The Nasdaq 100 traded 0.17% in the green at 2:02 pm ET, with Workday increasing 2.77% at the same time.

The euro went for 1.12196 against the dollar, falling 0.28% at 2:03 pm ET.
