Wall Street closes mixed, Dow up almost 500 pts

Shares in the United States moved mostly higher on Wednesday with the Dow Jones Industrial Average rising, but the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 closing over lower. The investor sentiment was mixed ahead of the vote at the United States Senate on the $2 trillion economic relief package to prevent the collapse of the economy amid the global coronavirus crisis. Meanwhile, data showed house prices in the US increased 0.3% in January and new orders for manufactured durable goods rose 1.2% in February.

The Dow finished 2.39% higher, driven by a surge in Boeing's stock that jumped 24.32%, the Nasdaq 100 fell 1.11% as Walgreens Boots Alliance dropped 8.42%, while the broader S&P 500 index ended 1.15% higher.

The euro gained 0.94% against the greenback to sell for $1.0887 at 4:11 pm ET. At the same time, the pound also increased 1.25% compared to the dollar changing hands at $1.19052.
