Shares moved higher at the start of trading on Wall Street on Thursday buoyed by positive trade developments. China announced it plans on halving tariffs on goods from the United States worth $75 billion.

Meanwhile, investors remained focused on the spreading of the Wuhan coronavirus in China as the death toll from the pneumonia-like disease reached over 560. European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said policymakers were closely monitoring risks associated with the outbreak as the coronavirus added "a new layer of uncertainty" to the economy.

The Dow Jones climbed to a new record at the open, rising over 100 points. 3M, IBM and Walgreens Boots Alliance led the gains. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 added 0.31% as Twitter soared over 13% following the company's earnings report. The Nasdaq 100 gained 0.32% with eBay among the top performers.
