Asia trades lower as coronavirus spreads

Asian markets traded lower on Tuesday following Japan's Economic Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura's statement in which he said that the country is closely monitoring the impact of the coronavirus on the Japanese economy. Chinese health officials confirmed 107 victims died from the coronavirus in the country so far, with over 4,000 identified cases in total.

Japan's Nikkei 225 lost 0.89% at 4:30 am CET, while South Korean Kospi dropped 3.42% at the same time. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 traded 1.32% lower at 4:31 am CET. Chinese mainland markets, the Shanghai Composite and the Shenzhen Composite, as well as Hongkong's Hang Seng were closed.

The dollar traded 0.09% higher compared to the yen, changing hands for 108.9870 at 4:30 am CET.
