Nikkei 225 plunges amid coronavirus fears

Shares on the Tokyo Stock Exchange moved lower on Monday with the benchmark Nikkei 225 dropping as much as 2% in early trade amid growing fears over the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Growing uncertainty over the deadly virus led to a drop in United States stock futures as well, with the Dow Jones falling over 300 points overnight.

The Nikkei 225 plunged 1.91% before the break at 3:35 am CET. Other major Asian markets were closed for the Lunar New Year and over in Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 was closed for Australia Day. The dollar fell 0.23% against the yen at 4:40 am CET, buying ¥109.033.
