US stocks open higher after Christmas break

Stocks on Wall Street traded higher at the open on Thursday following the Chinese Commerce Ministry's statement which revealed that Washington and Beijing continue the dialogue regarding the procedures of the signing ceremony of the trade agreement.

US Mortgage Bankers Association reported earlier today the mortgage applications dropped 5.3% in the week ending December 20, while the US Department of Labor stated initial jobless claims decreased by 13,000 in the week ending December 21.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index increased by 0.08% at the open. with Walgreens Boots Alliance being the top performer, gaining 1.11% at 9:47 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 index rose by 0.21%, with AMD leading the gains, climbing 1.37% at 9:32 am ET. The S&P 500 index grew by 0.12%. Apache Corp. added the most, 2.52% at 9:33 am ET.

The euro increased by 0.10% against the dollar, changing hands for 1.10962 at 9:34 am ET.
