Wall Street closed higher on Friday after a highly volatile week in the stock markets which saw the main United States Treasury yield curve invert, leading to recession fears. However, Friday's trade helped regain some losses as investors became more certain that trade talks between the US and China will take place in September as White House trade adviser Peter Navarro confirmed Washington is in contact with Beijing to discuss trade.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 1.20%.

The Nasdaq 100 rose 1.59%. Nvidia surged 7.25% after posting better-than-expected earnings a day earlier.

The S&P 500 increased 1.44%. General Electric recovered some losses from the day before when the company's stock reacted to accounting fraud allegations and jumped 9.74% at the end of the day.

The euro lost 0.15% compared to the dollar and went for 1.10905 at 4:12 pm ET.
