A revision by Eurostat showed on Friday that underlying consumer prices in the euro area had a stronger momentum on an annual scale in April than in the first estimate. Annual inflation excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco came in at 1.3% or 0.1 percentage points higher, compared to only 0.8% for March. However, the monthly increase landed at 0.9% or 0.1 points below the flash figure.

The harmonized rate was confirmed at 1.7% for overall inflation after 1.4% was measured in the previous month. In the whole European Union, the measure strengthened to 1.9% from 1.6%. The gain was 0.7% in April alone, the same as in the Eurozone. The readings were 0.1 and 0.3 points weaker, respectively, than in the prior month.
