Asian stocks higher after vaccine news, Japan data

Equities on Asian markets traded higher on Tuesday after preliminary data showed that Oxford University/AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine candidate has produced a positive immune response in humans. Meanwhile, the Statistics Bureau of Japan reported that the annual inflation rate stood at 0.1% in June.

Japanese Nikkei 225 index was 0.64% higher at 4:06 am CET. The Shanghai Composite increased by 0.21% at 3:52 am CET and the Shenzhen Composite Index climbed 0.83% at 4:09 am CET. The Hang Seng jumped 1.69% one minute later, while the Kospi advanced 1.26% at 4:11 am CET. The S&P/ASX 200 in Australia gained 1.17% at 4:06 am CET.

The dollar was 0.09% lower compared to the yen, going for 107.1690 at 4:12 am CET.
