Europe opens lower with focus on Davos

European markets opened in the red on Tuesday as investors focused on the World Economic Forum in Davos, where United States President Donald Trump is set to deliver a speech later in the day. Meanwhile, the European earnings season kicked off with results from UBS and easyJet.

The FTSE 100 declined 0.66% at 9:01 am CET. NMC Health was the worst performer as its shares dropped 2.27% at 9:02 am CET.

The DAX lost 0.69% at 9:03 am CET with Lufthansa, down 2.14%, leading the losses.

The CAC 40 slid 0.73% at 9:00 am CET with luxury companies LVMH and Kering pulling the index down.

The euro and the pound both traded flat against the dollar, going for 1.10950 and 1.30074, respectively, at 9:03 am CET.
