Gold at three-month high as precious metals extend gains

Prices of precious metals gained on Tuesday even as official announcements about the signing of the interim trade deal between the US and China failed to turn investors away from safe-haven assets.

However vague, prospects of improved trade relations between the world's two largest economies kept the US dollar low, which in turn propped up the prices of precious metals even further. The greenback was down against all major currencies for the third straight session.

Gold rose 0.62%, going for $1.524,31 per ounce at 2:30 am ET. Silver gained 1.07%, selling for $18.11 per ounce, whereas platinum soared 1.52% to $971,85 per ounce at 2:31 am ET. Palladium climbed 0.26%, going for $1.914,77 an ounce at the same time.
