European equities traded with gains at the open on Friday as investors digested fresh trade news. United States President Donald Trump appeared to walk back on comments from earlier this week that suggested he is in no hurry to seal a deal with China.

On Thursday, he said that talks are "going well" and that "something could happen" with tariffs on Chinese goods set to take effect on December 15. Meanwhile, Beijing is making concessions to the US and will now consider tariffs waivers on some American soybean and pork imports.

The DAX added 0.26% in the first moments of trading led higher by Lufthansa. In Paris, the CAC 40 advanced 0.17% with ArcelorMittal among the top performers. The FTSE 100 gained 0.25%; Phoenix Group moved jumped over 2%. The euro was 0.05% higher against the dollar at 9:10 am CET, buying 1.11071 while the pound was down 0.05% versus the US currency, going for 1.31533.
