JPMorgan to buy 75% stake in VW's payments unit

JPMorgan Chase reached an agreement with Volkswagen Financial Services to buy a controlling stake of close to 75% in the carmaker's payments platform operated by Volkswagen Payments S.A.

The American lender noted the deal "will expand the bank’s digital payment capabilities and see the platform extended and accessible to the broader auto industry for the first time." Christian Dahlheim, head of Volkswagen Group Sales, called JPMorgan the ïdeal partner" for Volkswagen Payments to implement the requirements of the Volkswagen Group's brands for customized automotive payment solutions worldwide."

Financial details of the transactions have not been disclosed. The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2022 subject to regulatory approvals.
