VW restricts production to deal with parts' shortage

Volkswagen AG decided to reduce the production of various vehicle models, due to a "massive semiconductor supply bottleneck," the company announced on Friday.

According to VW's press release, production lines in China, North America and several locations in Europe will have to adapt to the "current supply situation in the first quarter of 2021." The decision affects the production of models based on the modular transversal toolkit (MQB) platform of Volkswagen passenger cars and commercial vehicles, Skoda, Seat and Audi.

"We are now feeling the effects of the global semiconductor bottleneck. We are doing everything in our power to minimize lost production and to ensure that normal deliveries to customers can be resumed as rapidly as possible,” Designated Group Board of Management Member Murat Aksel stated.
