Wall Street opens in green on vaccine progress

Major stock markets in the United States opened positive at the start of the week as news surrounding progress on coronavirus vaccine and treatments pushed the positive sentiment. The government's adviser Dr. Moncef Slaoui previously announced that vaccination in the country could begin on December 11, a day after the meeting of the Food and Drug Administration.

Meanwhile, AstraZeneca revealed that its COVID-19 vaccine candidate is 70% effective in preventing the disease and that the formula can be stored at regular fridge temperatures. Yesterday, the FDA approved Regeneron Pharmaceuticals' treatment for COVID-19 patients who are at high risk of developing severe symptoms.

The Dow rose 0.67% or 195 points at the open, with Nike climbing 1.33%. The Nasdaq 100 climbed 0.55%, as Moderna jumped 3.91%. The S&P 500 advanced 0.60%. Gap led the gains by surging 6.48%. The euro gained 0.31% to sell for $1.18950 at 9:32 am ET.
