VW's ex-CEO charged with market manipulation

A German court in Braunschweig announced on Thursday that has brought charges for market manipulation against former Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn (pictured).

The charges are part of the "dieselgate" scandal from 2006 to 2015 and the court claims that Winterkorn knew about the excessive pollution levels diesel cars would cause when in use and neglecting to inform the investors about it.

Previously, the court ruled that the German carmaker is liable to compensate buyers of vehicles because the vehicles had the emissions test-cheating software installed.
