US markets turn to losses after starting mixed

Major stock market indexes on Wall Street opened mixed on Friday, but turned to losses in the first 15 minutes of trading, as investors paid attention to American central bankers' comments on the recent interest rate decision of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) and the US economy. On the politics front, all eyes remained on US-China relations ahead of the White House's announcement on the deal between TikTok and Oracle after the Commerce Department said the US would ban TikTok downloads on Sunday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened 0.10% in the red at 9:31 am ET, with Chevron falling 0.76% at the same time. The Nasdaq 100 rose 0.65% at 9:30 am ET, but the index fell 0.19% at 9:53 am ET, with Pinduoduo leading the losses. The S&P 500 was up 0.15% in the first minute of trading. However, the index fell 0.24% at 9:54 am ET as American Airlines lost 2.46% at the same time.

The euro was flat against the dollar at 9:32 am ET, going for 1.18439.
