Dow plunges over 300 pts after negative US data

The Dow Jones plunged over 300 points on Thursday after United States Census Bureau announced that housing starts in the country dropped by 5.1% to an annual rate of 1,416,000 in August. Meanwhile, even if it was reported that the number of US initial jobless claims went down to 860,000, this still represents a big rise in comparison to the last year.

The Dow Jones dropped 303 points or 1.08% at 8:35 am ET, while the S&P 500 went down by 1.38% at 8:40 am ET. At the same time, the Nasdaq 100 fell 2.14%.

The euro was down 0.12% against the dollar, buying 1.18032 at 8:41 1m ET.
