Wall Street opens higher, Dow climbs over 150 pts

Trading on Wall Street kicked off in the green on Wednesday with the Dow Jones jumping over 150 points as investors shrugged off tensions between China and the United States. Markets were also attuned to developments on Capitol Hill and ongoing discussions on the next coronavirus relief bill.

Meanwhile, in election news, the Democratic Party's presumptive nominee Joe Biden picked Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate in November's election.

The Dow gained 173 points at the open with Goldman Sachs and Apple among the top perfomers. The S&P 500 rose 0.83% as Invesco surged over 5% to the top of the chart. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq 100 jumped 0.88%; Tesla was the strongest performer after the company announced a 5-for-1 stock split.
