Asian stocks mixed on Chinese data

Major stock markets in the Asia-Pacific traded mixed on Tuesday after the Chinese National Bureau of Statistics reported a growth of China's consumer price index (CPI) of 4.5% in November year-on-year, or 0.4% compared to the previous month.

Meanwhile, United States President Donald Trump repeated on Monday his claim that trade talks with China are going "well," and Chinese Assistant Commerce Minister Ren Hongbin said on the same day that Beijing hopes to reach a trade deal that satisfies both countries as soon as possible.

The Japanese Nikkei 225 closed 0.09% lower while the Hong Kong's Hang Seng stood flat at 7:21 am CET. The Shanghai Composite grew by 0.07% at 7:07 am CET and Shenzhen Composite indices jumped 0.25% at 7:23 am CET. Over in South Korea, the Kospi Composite rose 0.54% at 7:24 am CET. Meanwhile, the Australian S&P/ASX 200 closed 0.34% lower.

The US dollar was flat against the yen, changing hands for ¥108.6120 at 7:26 am CET.
