Stock markets in the United States started the session mostly with losses on Thursday despite better-than-expected economic data. New orders for manufactured durable goods in January increased $8.5 billion or 3.4% to $256.6 billion while US initial jobless claims went down by 111,000 to 730,000. However, it's the bond yields, which weighed on stocks. The 10-year Treasury yield topped 1.46%, coming to its highest level since February 2020. The Dow Jones opened flat at 9:30 am ET with Boeing Co. falling by 0.93%. The S&P 500 lost 0.32% at the same time. United Airlines Holding went south by 3.17%. The Nasdaq 100 dropped 0.77% at 9:31 am ET, as ANSYS decreased by 5.57%. The euro traded 0.42% higher compared to the dollar and sold for 1.22171 at 9:22 am ET. |
