Hong Kong to reach herd immunity before 2022

Tuesday, 23. February 2021 15:38

Hong Kong authorities registered on Tuesday 70,000 people that made appointments to get their first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccine in the next two weeks, booking all available timeslots within hours of the first day of open reservations.

At the existing rate, almost 1% of the city's population will be vaccinated in two weeks. Although the goal is to vaccinate 60-70% of the population by end of 2021, experts believe if measures such as wearing masks and social distancing are continued, then herd immunity can be achieved with only 30-40% of vaccinated population.

Five community vaccination centers will begin by providing Sinovac vaccines, while 24 other community vaccination centers are planning to offer the Fosun Pharma/BioNTech vaccines.
