Royal Carribean CEO: Vaccines helping cruise companies

Monday, 22. February 2021 22:31

Major cruise operators are coming out of pandemic hibernation as senior citizens book their next vacation after getting fully vaccinated, CEO of Royal Caribbean Richard Fain shared with CNBC on Monday. "We really thought older people would be more cautious. Turns out they want to get out of the house too," he said.

Investors seem optimistic about the industry as Royal Caribbean fourth-quarter results revealed smaller losses than expected and shared growing bookings. Fain also noted that in the recently restored operations out of Singapore, 80% of customers were unexpectedly first-time cruisers, rather than experienced customers.

Carnival Corporation gained 5.61% on the markets at the closing bell, while Royal Caribbean jumped 9.33% and Norwegian Cruise Line grew by 6.43%.
