Europe closes higher amid coronavirus optimism

Shares on the major stock market indexes in Europe closed Friday's session with gains as coronavirus cases in Europe began to show signs of slowing.

German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz stated the country's government was aiming to achieve the recovery from the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic "in full strength" next year.

The DAX rose by 0.57% at 5:30 pm CET as Infineon Tech AG jumped by 3.13%. The CAC 40 gained 0.58% at the same time. Alstom was the best performer rising by 3.94%. Meanwhile, in London, the FTSE 100 was up by 0.17% with Gvc Holdings Plc rose by 2.51%.

The euro strengthened 0.39% versus the dollar, selling for 1.19605 at 5:28 pm CET, while the pound sterling fell by 0.18% compared to the greenback, to go for 1.33300 a minute later.
