Toyota inks deal for fuel cells with BAIC

Toyota Motor Corp. will supply parts for vehicles running on fuel cells to Beiqi Foton Motor Co. Ltd., Nikkei reported on Monday. The subsidiary of BAIC Group, officially Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. Ltd., signed the agreement for the buses production line, according to the article. The carmaker based in Aichi, Japan, said it would ship hydrogen tanks and that it also established cooperation with fuel cell manufacturer Beijing SinoHytec Co. Ltd.

Beiqi makes trucks and sports utility vehicles (SUVs) as well. The deal was announced following yesterday's start of a partnership between Toyota and China's Tshinghua University in the research and development of technology including hydrogen power. The automotive giant has said it would enable free access to 24,000 of its patents for electric cars.
